Nicholas H. Anderson, LCPL, USMC
Killed: November 12, 2004

Lance Corporal Nicholas H. Anderson, USMC, 19, of Las Vegas, Nevada; assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California was killed on November 12, 2004 as a result of a vehicle incident while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq.

Lance Corporal Nicholas H. Anderson was a member of the BRUCE VAN VOORHIS MEMORIAL Squadron, Las Vegas, Nevada, serving from April, 1999 to September, 2000.

Nicholas A. Arvantis, CPL, USA
Killed: October 6, 2006

Corporal Nicholas A. Arvanitis, USA, 22, of Salem, New Hampshire; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; died October 6, 2006 from injuries sustained when he encountered enemy fire in Bayji, Iraq.

Corporal Arvanitis was a member of CONSTITUTION Division, Metheun, Massachusetts, serving from February 1999 to February 2001.

Joshua L. Booth, 2LT, USMC
Killed: October 17, 2006

Second Lieutenant Joshua Booth, USMC, 23, of Fiskdale, Massachusetts; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii was killed on October 17, 2006 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar province, Iraq.

Second Lieutenant Booth was a member of WORCESTER Division, Worcester, Massachusetts, serving from May 1999 to May 2001.

Jeffery A. Boskovitch, CPL, USMC
Killed: August 1, 2005

Corporal Jeffery A. Boskovitch, USMC, 25, of Seven Hills, Ohio; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, Brook Park, Ohio; attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) was killed on August 1, 2005 as a result of small-arms fire while conducting dismounted operations outside Haditha, Iraq.

Corporal Jeffery A. Boskovitch was a member of CLEVELAND Division, Cleveland, Ohio, serving as a Navy League Cadet from October 1991 to October 1993 and a Naval Sea Cadet from April 1994 to April 1996.

Jeffrey C. Burgess, LCPL, USMC
Killed: March 25, 2004

Lance Corporal Jeffrey C. Burgess, USMC, 20, of Plymouth, Massachusetts; assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California was killed on March 25, 2004 as a result of enemy action near Al Fallujah, Iraq.

Lance Cpl. Jeffrey C. Burgess was a member of Training Ship CAPE COD CANAL, Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts, serving from 1994 to 1999.

Lucas W. A. Emch, HN, USN
Killed: March 2, 2007

Hospitalman Lucas W. Emch, USN, 21 of Kent Ohio; died March 2, 2007, when an Improvised Explosive Device detonated in his vicinity while conducting combat operations in Al-Anbar Province, Iraq. Emch was a hospital corpsman assigned to 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Hospitalman Emch was a member of AKRON Division, Akron, Ohio, serving from 2001 to 2003.

Kane M. Funke, LCPL, USMC
Killed: August 13, 2004

Lance Corporal Kane M. Funke, USMC, 20, of Vancouver, Washington.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty Nine Palms, California was killed on August 13, 2004 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

Lance Corporal Kane M. Funke was a member of FORT VANCOUVER Division, Vancouver, Washington, serving from 2002 to 2003.

Jesse Halling, PFC, USA
Killed: June 7, 2003

Private First Class Jesse Halling, USA, 19, of Indianapolis, Indiana.; assigned to 401st Military Police Company, Fort Hood, Texas was killed on June 7, 2003 at a military police station when his section received rifle propelled grenade and small arms fire.   Newspaper accounts indicated "He died firing a machine gun from atop a Humvee while telling others to take cover." Brigadier General Randal Castro told the family "There are three to five soldiers alive today because of Jesse's heroism."

Private First Class Jesse Halling was a member of CRUISER INDIANAPOLIS (CA 35) Division, Indianapolis, Indiana, serving from 1997 to 2004.

 

Kevin A. Houston, CSO (SEAL), USN
Killed: August 6, 2011

Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Kevin A. Houston, USN, 35, of West Hyannisport, MA died Aug. 6, when the CH-47 ‘Chinook” helicopter he was riding in was shot down while conducting combat operations in Wardak Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Command, Little Creek, Virginia.

Houston was a 1994 graduate of Barnstable High School, where he was captain of the football team his senior year.

He enlisted in January 1995, the Navy said, and became a SEAL in May 1999. He reported to Naval Special Warfare Group Two in December 2005. He joined his East Coast-based SEAL team in January 2008.

Houston leaves behind a wife and three children.

His decorations include two Bronze Stars with ‘V’ devices for valor; Purple Heart; Joint Service Commendation Medal with ‘V’ device for valor; two Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals; Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Presidential Unit Citation; Battle ‘E’ Ribbon; Navy ‘E’ Ribbon; three Good Conduct Medals; National Defense Service Medal; two Afghanistan Campaign Medals; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Rifle Marksmanship Medal and Pistol Marksmanship Medal.


Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Kevin A. Houston was a member of T.S. PATRIOT and GOSNOLD Division, Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts, serving from 1991 to 1994.

Robert B. Jenkins, BU2, USN
Killed: May 2, 2004

Builder Second Class (SCW) Robert B. Jenkins, USN, 35 of Stuart, Florida; assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, Jacksonville, Florida was killed on May 2, 2004 in the Al Anbar Province as a result of hostile fire. 

Builder Second Class Robert B. Jenkins was a member of KEYSTONE Division, Altoona, Pennsylvania serving from 1983 to 1985.

Travis J. Layfield, LCPL, USMC
Killed: April 06, 2004

Lance Corporal Travis J. Layfield, USMC, 19, of Fremont, California; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California was killed on April 6, 2004 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.

Lance Corporal Layfield was a Navy League Cadet in Training Ship MIDWAY and a Naval Sea Cadet in HANCOCK Squadron, both in Hayward, California, serving from 1996 to 1999.

Jason E. Lawson, AW2, USN
Killed: March 12, 2002

Aviation Warfare Systems Operator Second Class (NAC) Jason E. Lawson, USN, 21, of Atlanta, Georgia, an Aviation Warfare Systems Operator and Rescue Swimmer assigned to HSL-46; was killed when the SH-60B helicopter he was flying in was being tested after maintenance crashed about 90 miles west of Greece. Petty Officer Lawson was deployed to the 6th Fleet in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

AW2 (NAC) Jason E. Lawson was a Chief Petty Officer in NARS B-1 Squadron, Atlanta, Georgia, serving from 1994 to 1999.

Donald C. May, SSGT, USMC
Killed: March 25, 2003

Staff Sergeant Donald C. May, USMC, 31, of Richmond, Virginia.; assigned to the 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, Twenty Nine Palms, California, was killed on March 25, 2003 when his tank plunged off a cliff into the Euphrates River.

Staff Sergeant Donald C. May was a Navy League Cadet in Training Ship VIRGINIA from 1985 to 1987 and a Naval Sea Cadet in AMERICA Division, both in Richmond, Virginia, from 1987 until 1990. He attained the rate of PO2.

Corey Shea, SPC, USA
Killed: November 12, 2008

Specialist Corey Shea, USA, 21, of Mansfield, Massachusetts; assigned to the Killer Troop, Third Squadron, Third Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas, was killed on November 12, 2008 near the city of Mosul when he and other soldiers were shot at by a renegade Iraqi soldier with possible ties to Al Qaeda. SPC Shea graduated from Mansfield High School in 2005 as a popular student who played football and hockey. He had close friends, and many girlfriends.

Specialist Shea was a member of FREEDOM Division, Canton, Massachusetts, from December 2000 to May 2003.

Johnathan W. Taylor, CPL, USMC
Killed: 22 February 2011


Corporal Johnathan W. Taylor, USMC, 23, of Homosassa, FL died Feb. 22 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Corporal Taylor was a member of NAUTILUS Division, Yankeetown, Florida serving from 2003 to 2006.

Jonathan A. Taylor, LCPL, USMC
Killed: 1 December 2009

Lance Corporal Jonathan A. Taylor, USMC, 22, of Jacksonville, Florida; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC; was killed on December 1st 2009 was killed by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Taylor was a member of FD ROOSEVELT Squadron, Jacksonville, Florida, serving from 2000 to 2005.

Kevin S.K. Wessel, PFC, USA
Killed: April 19, 2005

Private First Class Kevin S.K. Wessel, USA, 20, of Newport, Oregon; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia was killed on April 19 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol in Baghdad.

Private First Class Kevin S.K. Wessel was a member of BATTLESHIP MISSOURI Division (formerly BARBERS POINT Squadron), Honolulu, Hawaii, serving from 1998 to 2002.
